Possible addiction
I'm a girl and I love shoes. Like seriously what girl doesn't? I work in the professional world so I have several pairs of heels to rotate with my outfits. I also live in Texas so I have numerous pairs of flip flops.
I recently went to Payless for BOGO and got three really cute pairs of shoes. Well originally I got two on the first trip, but while I was there I saw this adorable pair of turquoise shoes. I thought about them for a few days and with the help of Rachel I decided to go back and get them since they were on sale for $9. I have something like 6 weddings to attend next year so I'm thinking I'll browse the sale racks this fall for a cute summer dress to match. Bam. An outfit to wear to at least two of the weddings next year, and all for a discount. Love it.
OK, but back to my "possible addiction." Sunday my parents came over for my step-mom's birthday. While chatting she mentioned that one of her young co-workers mentioned she had 45 pairs of shoes! I was like WOW, that's a lot. I don't know if I have that many. My step-mom though it was a super high number just for shoes (Hi Karen, I know you're reading this).
This got me thinking...how many pairs of shoes do I have?
So I started counting.....not good.
I have...I have a whopping sixty-two pairs of shoes!!! SIXTY-TWO!! Like really. Is that bad?
So here's the breakdown...
Heels: 13
Summer slip on: 2
Flats: 8
Boots: 1
Crocs: 1
Casual shoes: 3
Tennis shoes: 6
Summer strappy: 12
Flip flops: 17
I just almost had an anxiety attack just writing it all down. That.is.a.lot.of.shoes. However, while going through them...really going through them I saw quite a few pairs I can get rid of.
Heels: I wear pretty much all of my heels to work. I am good about rotating them so I don't wear any one pair out. I love my work shoes so I think that category is good. That also includes some of my cork wedge heels for summer dresses and jeans.
Summer slip on: keeping all of these.
Flats: I saw one pair for sure that I could get rid of.
Boots, crocs & casual shoes: Leaving these.
Tennis shoes: Who seriously needs 6 pairs of tennis shoes? One pair I kept for grunge shoes just in case. I think I'll throw those out and use my back up pair of sneakers for possible grunge. Then I have some slip on new balance...not wearing those anytime soon. See.You.Later. Then I have some bowling-like sneakers from high school. Haven't worn them since high school...bye bye. Then I have those ultra chunky new balance tennis shoes. Still on the fence about those. I'm thinking bye bye.
Summer strappy: These are all my little strappy shoes for skirts and dresses. I saw one pair from a wedding that I can really get rid of. I also have two pairs of white ones. One pair has to go. Another pair I have is cute, but uncomfortable. I have held onto them because those are the shoes I wore when hubby proposed. I'm thinking I should just let that one go.
Flip flops: 17 may be a bit excessive. I'm thinking quite a few pairs can make their way to goodwill or our garage sale pile.
So after counting and almost having a heart attack I realized I should probably go through my shoes. One good thing is that I wear most of them, but the ones I don't need to go.
Tonight when I get home I'm going to go through them and toss some. I'll let you know the results.
How many pairs of shoes do you have? How many pairs is too many?

6 pairs of tennis shoes?!?! Holy cow girl. I love this post because of the honesty. I loves shoes myself, but I do not have 6 pairs of tennis shoes. HAhaa, hilarious.
It's pretty ridiculous huh? NO ONE should have 6 pairs of tennis shoes. Precisely why I am going to go through them. Thanks!!
Ya know...prepare yourself for the blasphemy...I have a very very small collection of shoes.
2 pairs of sneakers (1 good pair, 1 messy pair--and when I get a new pair, the old pair rotates back to messy & the messy gets tossed).
2 pairs of sandals.
1 pair of silver strappy heeled sandals.
2 pairs of heels (which I almost never wear).
2 pairs of heeled boots (1 brown, 1 black).
And the new little flats I jost posted about on my blog the other day.
WOW! And my family makes fun of me for having too many shoes. I also love shoes! Shoes & purses are my favorite thing to shop for because it doesnt matter if I think im fat or not! I have around 30ish pairs of shoes. Cant count right now b/c they are in storage. I can't believe you have double that! Can't wait to tell my family that I don't have that many!
LOL that is awesome hahaha
I am jealous of your collection! I keep accumulating more and more, though I'm a bit upset I can't wear all of my cute shoes since I broke my ankle!
So glad you went back for the shoes! I have a healthy practice of purging shoes and clothes that I have not worn in six months. I recommend it to everyone! :)
I really should do this too...I have been thinking about it for a while, especially since I have way too many dress shoes that are uncomfortable, so what do I do? Just by more of course! I may have 6 pairs of tennis shoes too. i will need to tally it all up and see one weekend. I definitely have way too many flip flops too. Great post!
To give you an idea, my husband has more shoes than me. So, here's his closet:
flip-flops - 1 pair
"driving" shoes (whatever those are) -1 pair
Sambas - 2 pair (1 old, 1 new)
running shoes - 1 pair
black dress boots - 1 pair
black dress shoes - 1 pair
brown dress shoes - 3 pair (different shades to match his different belts)
soccer cleats - 1 pair
hiking/hunting boots - 1 pair
He also has more clothes than I do. Over three-fourths of the closet is taken up with his clothing, plus he gets the one dresser we have in our bedroom. If all his clothes are clean at the same time, they don't fit in his designated places (and that's why he claims he doesn't do laundry as often)--but he wears all of them. Even the t-shirts he's had since middle school. He's 29. Don't ask. :)
I can SO relate to this. I have no idea how many pairs I have now, but I know when I designed my closet organization system last year (which my husband implemented for me), I had him put in seven shoe shelves...
ANYWAY. One day, about 3 years ago, I decided to count my shoes becase someone at work commented on my endless array.
I had EIGHTY-SEVEN pairs of shoes.
I definitely have fewer now, since I work from home and all...but it's still pretty ridiculous.
But to me, shoes MAKE an outfit. So I'm with you, girl. :-)
Sunshinemeg - I know...I got rid of some though!! :)
Dawn - I love your new little flats! I just have a lot of shoes I guess. Something for every occasion.
Heather Martin - Hahahaha!! 30ish isn't bad! I'm down to 50 now. I can probably stand to get rid of some more flips flops. The bag for goodwill is still sitting in my closet.
The Novelista Barista - Thanks. lol
Children of the 90s - BUmmer!! I know when I broke my toe it sucked bc I couldn't wear them. I can't imagine breaking my ankle.
Rachel - Yea I love them!! I generally purge 2x a year of things I didn't wear during the season.
Goose - Any pair that was uncomfortable I made sure to get rid of! I'm bad about buying more as well. I told myself though - for the rest of the year...no more shoes! Yea I have too many flip flops. Thanks Goose!
Beaver - He has more shoes than you?? Hahahahahaha!! You crack me up! And more clothes? Ha! I def have T beat. Middle school T-shirts? lol! Now that's hilarious!!
Brandi - Seven shoes shelves? Awesome!!!! I want to put in some shelving eventually. 87!! Woweee! Thanks for making me feel better! Shoes definitely MAKE an outfit!!!!!
I'm not counting mine. Nope--not going to do it. I think I'll just live in blissful denial awhile longer. (I suspect, though I won't confirm, that my addiction is AT LEAST in the neighborhood of your number...)
