Writer's Workshop

This week's chosen prompt for Writer's Workshop by Mama Kat:

Describe a favorite Halloween costume or moment you wish you had on video.

***

In college, Hubby and I went to our first Halloween party together, where you actually HAD to dress up. My grandma said her neighbor was selling Halloween costumes and would get us something "really cool." I guess it wasn't a big deal to me as to what we went as, so I agreed. Mistake no. 1.

I got the costumes from her one weekend before Halloween. She picked out a "disco diva" and a "police officer." Bad idea no. 1.

It's Saturday night and we're getting ready for our party. Hubby's parent's are having a party of their own outside, which in all actuality would probably have been more fun! So we open the costumes and have to laugh a bit. They are at the highest level of cheesy. My costume was like this mesh layer covered in sequins and had a GINORMOUS pink boa. Bad idea no. 2.

I am a petite girl but I'm more athletic OK? So I bend over to put these sequined pants on (thank God I was going to be drinking...this was already looking bad). I can barely get them on. I was probably about a size 4 then, so you know...nothing that shouldn't be able to fit in a size small costume. I manage to "shimmy" into these pants. I felt like a stuffed sausage. I bent over to get the ultra fancy sequined top (bad idea no. 3) and BAM!!!!! I busted the entire rear end out of the pants. Hubby falls over laughing so hard he can barely speak. Meanwhile, I'm stuck inside these busted sequined pants. I have to rip them to get them off. Think non-stretchy leggings.

So Hubby decides to work on putting his costume on. I come out of the bathroom and die laughing. I could barely see I was laughing so hard. His costume was so ridiculous that he looked like a male stripper. A bad male stripper. The pants were tear-aways and the entire thing looked so cheap it was hilarious. Hand cuffs, hat, baton and all.

Needless to say we did not wear those costumes. They gave us quite a laugh though! He ended up going as a football player and I wore his little brother's little league uniform - all crises averted.

That's about as crazy as our Halloween's have been :)
