Writer's Workshop {2.4.10}
This week's chosen prompt:
A song you can’t escape.
****
I could easily do something from Incredibad's album like I'm on a boat, or Dick in a box. Because face it. They are awesome. I could do something current like Pants on the Ground, but I've already shared that with you. I could easily do some brit brit or Lady Gaga or really even some Beyonce. Oh, and we all know my love affair with the song Low by Flo Rida. Jesse's Girl is a long time favorite as well. But I thought I would take you back a bit and unveil to you:
Chuck Berry's My Ding-a-Ling
Please allow me to explain...
I was in 5th grade and in tutoring for math. {It was never my strongest subject} It was me and another older boy in Mrs. Turner's math tutoring. One day, the boy pulled a cassette out of his backpack and asked Mrs. Turner if he could play it for her. She got her cassette player and put it on the table. He popped in the tape and for the first time, I heard Chuck Berry's song My Ding-a-Ling. I have never seen a middle-aged lady laugh so hard in her life.
Since that fateful day in 5th grade, this has since been one of the funniest songs I have ever heard. I will still break into laughing fits when I hear this song. I have it on my MP3 player and yes...I know every word. My husband just shakes his head. Maybe it's the innuendos that get me. Who knows. We do know that my mind lives in the gutter half the time, but I digress.
So this song will remain forever ingrained in my head.
and just in case you wanted to memorize the words too...
When I was a little bitty boy
My Grandmother bought me a cute little toy
Silver bells hanging on a string
She said it was my Ding a ling a ling
Oh my ding a ling, Everybody sing
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
Oh my ding a ling, my ding a ling
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
When I started Grammar School
I used to stop off in the vestibule
Every time that bell would ring
I'd take out my ding a ling a ling
Oh my ding a ling, Everybody sing
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
Humpty dumpty on the wall
Humpty had an terrible fall
When they went to tell the king
Caught him playing with his ding a ling
Oh my ding a ling, my ding a ling
Come on now everybody sing
My ding a ling, my ding a ling
I wanna play with my ding a ling
I remember the girl next door
We used to play house on the kitchen floor
I'd be king, she'd be queen
Together we'd play with our ding a ling a ling
My ding a ling, Oh my
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
When they took me to Sunday School
Tried to teach me the golden rule
But every time the choir would sing
Catch me playing with my ding a ling
Oh my ding a ling, my ding a ling
I wanna play with my ding a ling
My ding (That's right), my ding a ling
I wanna play with my ding a ling a ling
This here song, it ain't to sad
Cutest little song you ever had
Those of you, who will not sing
You must be playing with your own ding a ling
Oh my ding a ling, my ding a ling
Now my ding a, oh my ding a
I wanna play with my ding a ling
