Comments v. E-mails
I've been pondering the above for quite awhile.
Do you prefer me to comment back or would you like an e-mail response?
Eyegirl beat me to the punch recently with her post on the same topic. I try to respond back to everyone's comments in the comment section, but sometimes I get too overloaded and well, sometimes I'm just too lazy to click all the way back over to my blog. It's not that I don't appreciate the comments, because I do. You don't understand the hysteria excitement that overcomes me when my e-mail dings and it's in my blog inbox. I don't get very many e-mail in my regular e-mail, so seeing something in my blog inbox is super exciting. Sometimes, though, I just have too much going on and don't quite have the energy for those extra clicks. Lame? Sure, but I have a feeling some of you are with me.
I try to comment on other blogs I read as much as I can. Sometimes I'm a bit of a ghost reader, but I remind myself how much I love comments, so I leave comments as well. I started, a few months ago, clicking the little box that says e-mail me follow up comments. However, either it doesn't work properly or people just don't respond back to my comments. I get e-mails back, but most of them are other people's comments on the post.
I know when I actually get a response back from the blog where I commented I get excited. {Can you see that little things make me happy?}So I ask you...
What do you or would you prefer?
* an e-mail response
* a comment response
What's your preference??

I prefer email responses my self.
Here is my take on the subject....
I of course LOVE to hear back from you or anyone by email, its really thoughtful.
But...
I think thats how people get so overwhelmed with blogging. I personally dont think you should feel the need to comment back to someone that has commented you unless they asked a question.
Like, when I comment to anyone, what I type is EXACTLY what I was thinking while reading the post. I dont need a response back to my own thoughts. Does that make sense?
See I added a question in this comment so yea a reply back by email would be good but if I just said "comments are great" then I wouldnt expect it.
Maybe I need to post about this now telling everyone my take on it cause I realize some people expect it.
For me I prefer responses by e-mail. And I like to respond to a comment on my posts by e-mailing. I hardly ever go back to a post once I comment on it to see other's comments. I would be pulling out my hair with that stress! :) If someone asks me a question though and they don't have a reply address than I might go to one of their posts or if more than one person asked me the same question on a post and none of them have a reply address I might address it on a future post. Just my take though. I don't expect replies on every comment I make. Blogging is suppose to be fun. :)
I obviously just wrote essentially the same post, but I'll share my thoughts... I have to admit that I am way too busy to return to a post to see if someone left me a reply after my comment on their post. I get so many emails in my inbox as it is, that I don't want to check the box to get follow up comments from everyone sent to me, especially on blogs that get major comments on every post. So, personally I prefer getting the emailed responses, but then I wonder if I am obligated to respond to the emailed response and it feels like a never ended cycle. Almost everyone that commented on my post said that they preferred emailed responses, but the problem with that is that over half of my commenters don't have it set up to show their email. So, then I feel bad only emailing some people, and I often forget to check before I reply so I have no idea how many emails I sent off to the internet black hole replying to the blogger no reply address.
I've been wondering the same thing! I LOVE emailing people with replies. It is how I have made my best bloggy connections.
I RARELY go back to a place I left a comment to see if the person replied. I am content just putting my two cents in and calling it good.
However I do like it when I read through others comments and I see the blogger's response to questions I might have been wondering about too.
(see this comment accomplished nothing because I really didn't have a definitive answer!
I like to email back to people and think it is nice if I get an email from blogs where I commented.
Sometimes that is all and it ends there - other times it sparks a fun conversation...I have so much fun sharing with a few bloggers in particular and THAT is what makes it fun.
I don't worry about the rest or replying to the email responses I get to comments I made. You will make yourself CRAZY if you worry about it! ;)
email, for sure! I never go back to see if my comment has been replied to. If people don't have their email address in their profile, I sometimes have trouble replying to them at all. Horrible, I know, but I'm busy and lazy, a tricky combination :)
