Oh Seattle!
**WARNING: This WILL be a picture overload post :)
As most of you know, my Hubbs and I took a trip to Seattle last week to visit my two older brothers, my sister-in-law, and my brother's girlfriend (catch all that?). Hubbs and I really needed a break and a small getaway! We had sooooo much fun! Seattle is a really cool city. It's absolutely gorgeous there and the snow capped mountains are just too cool.
It was neat to visit a different city and one that's so much different than Houston. We actually had great weather while we were there, so that was perfect! OK, so I'm warning you now (and again) -- this will be a picture heavy post! {and potentially long}
----
We left Thursday on a non-stop flight to Seattle. My younger/older brother B (He's the younger of the older two brothers) picked us up from the airport and took us to his house.
He lives with his girlfriend, S, and has a wonderful house that was built in 1910! It was so cool. We took a walk down the hill from their house to the sound. It's absolutely gorgeous.
I got a great shot of Mount Rainier on our walk.
It's HUGE!! {OK, OK that's what she said. I couldn't resist} It's really 2 hours away from where I'm standing though. Isn't that crazy? We walked along the sound to a pub called Katie Downs where we got beer and some BBQ chicken nachos! So good.
My brother B and Tony then me and S.
Friday morning we slept in, ate breakfast, and I tried my hand at Rockband. I'm not bad actually! Then we went to a viewpoint overlooking the sound.
I love the snow capped mountains in the background.
Then we headed to downtown Tacoma to the Glass Museum. It was really neat. They had a local artist in there blowing glass spheres and then fusing them together. We got to see them do one and it was really interesting. It's such a long process. I had no idea. I got some really great glass beads there!!
They had some pretty sculptures outside.
Also, in the bridge connecting the museum to downtown there was this covered part with boxes of glass. The light shone through and illuminated the glass making for a really cool picture.
We left the glass museum and headed to another pub/brewery in downtown Tacoma. We also got some ice cream...YUM!! {Yes, I cheated} I got some neat shots of downtown Tacoma though. Later that day, my older brother JD and his wife J came to Tacoma and we went to this lovely park by the sound. We all sat around, drank beer, chatted, and let the dogs play. It was such a nice afternoon!! Then we all cooked dinner together. It was a great first day in Seattle/Tacoma.
Saturday morning we got up bright and early to head to Seattle where JD and J live. We caught an early morning ferry in downtown Seattle to head over to Bainbridge Island. The ferry ride was pretty chilly, but it had incredible views!
Leaving the dock
It was so cold!
We had breakfast at a fabulous diner and then perused the shops. I found a great bead shop where I did some serious damage :) We had beers at a great little pub on the island.
I love this picture!
Here's a few more pictures from the Island as well as some pics on our way back to Seattle.
When we got off the ferry we headed to downtown Seattle. We walked around the city {btw, there's a ton of stairs and steep hills} and headed to the market! Pike's Place Market is really cool! We went Saturday evening, so the market was NUTS! We couldn't stop much because the crowd moved you.
After the market, we ran to the store for wine, beer, cheese, and crackers to have at JD and J's house. They also have a freaking awesome house. It was built in the 40's and they have been remodeling it! It's so nice!! We sat around a little fire at their house catching up and cracking jokes. Then we headed to another pub/brewery for dinner. It was sooooo good. I had a Frambeweizen and it was awesome!
The Seattle area has some of the best beer I've ever had in my life!
Sunday we slept in and then headed back to downtown Seattle for some pictures. First stop was the Space Needle. Did I mention we bring our A&M gnome with us wherever we travel? Well we do...
My brother and his wife took us through a crazy expensive neighborhood called Queen Anne and took us to this beautiful viewpoint of the Seattle skyline.
After pictures we went to Freemont where there was another outdoor market. There were a TON of Etsy sellers. I bought a cute little flower pin. For lunch we ate at, you guessed it, another pub/brewery and had a FABULOUS lunch. I had a hefeweizen and a burger with bacon, cheddar, and avocado! Yummo!
Sadly, after lunch, it was time to head to the airport.
We had such a wonderful time in Seattle and really enjoyed getting to spend time with family. Seattle is an awesome city and I highly recommend it if you are ever looking to go. We hope to go back one more time before my brothers move back to the East Coast.
Until then...I'll miss you Seattle and my wonderful family!
